DIPLOMA IN TESOL
Introduction
The Diploma in TESOL is for trainees who have an interest in pursuing a career in the teaching of English. This is a taught programme combining a high level of theory with a range of opportunities to demonstrate your competencies as a teacher. It combines academic study, teaching and teacher management. It also provides you with the proper tools needed to help you embark on your career as an English teacher or, for experience teachers; it gives you the chance to enhance your teaching skills and to obtain a qualification for career advancement.
Course Structure
To qualify for the Diploma in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) students must complete the following:
- Four (4) Core Modules
- Two (2) Elective Modules, and,
- Practice Teaching (Optional) .
Core Modules
- TESOL001 - Language Teaching Methodology
- TESOL002 - Teaching Language Skills
- TESOL003 - Linguistics and Language Structure
- TESOL004 - Designing Lesson Plan and Classroom Management
Elective Modules
- TESOL005 - Lesson Planning and Use of Resource for Language Teaching
- TESOL006 - Teaching Creative Writing
Practice Teaching (Optional)
15 hours of Teaching Practice cum Classroom Observation
The Academy for English Teachers offers a supervised practicum that is designed to provide teachers with the opportunity to apply theory and practice in the field of English as a second language. Trainees will have the opportunity to observe ESL experienced teachers. Students will plan lessons, teach in an observed situation, and receive feedback and guidance on their teaching.
Course Duration
Full Time Monday to Friday for 6 weeks.
Part Time: Once a week for 6 months.
Mode of Delivery
Blended learning includes face-to-face lectures, classroom discussion, hands-on training activities and peer teaching practice.
Mode of Assessment
Written assignments, Examination and Practical teachings.

Admission Criteria
To apply for the course, all trainees are to meet the following admission criteria:
5 GCE "O" Levels with a credit in English
If you do not fall within any of the above categories and think you are qualified for the course, please submit all your qualifications and a letter explaining why you should be considered. Your application will then be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Award
Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded with Diploma in TESOL. The Diploma in TESOL will be awarded by The Academy for English Language Teachers.

Successful completion, participants will be awarded with Diploma in TESOL by The Academy for English Language Teachers , which is registered with Council for Provide Education, Singapore.
